Sputnik Hotel

As you might guess from the name, the area surrounding the Sputnik Hotel has various connections to Soviet space exploration. Ploshchad Gagarina is named for the first man in space, and has a titanium-clad statue of the great cosmonaut (the Yurii Gagarin Memorial).

A 20-minute walk from the hotel will bring you to the Danilov Monastery, which is the official residence of the Russian Orthodox Patriarch. Dating back to 1282, the monastery has recently undergone extensive restoration.

Also within walking distance of the hotel is the famous Gorky Park. This Soviet-era park is famous around the world and is well worth a visit.

It was created by combining the remains of two formal gardens from the 18th century and then significantly expanded. Now, the park features lovely scenery as well as other attractions.
