Nearest metro: Leninsky prospekt

The Sputnik Hotel is located on Leninskiy Prospekt, a major thoroughfare running south-west out of the centre of Moscow. The area was developed in the 1950s and 1960s, and has some impressive examples of Stalinist neoclassical architecture. The nearest metro station, Leninskiy Prospekt, is about 10 minutes' walk from the hotel. Trains from here take under 15 minutes to reach Kitai Gorod metro station, in the very center of Moscow. Paveletsky Station is about 20 minutes from the Sputnik Hotel by car, and is the terminal for express trains to Domodedovo International Airport. Other mainline stations can be reached by car within 40 minutes. Sheremetyevo-2 International Airport is on the other side of the city from the Sputnik, and the journey will take around 90 minutes.
Local sightseeing
As you exit Leninskiy Prospekt Metro Station, you come out onto Ploshchad Gagarina, renamed to honor the first man in space immediately after his historic flight in 1961. The Yurii Gagarin Memorial by P. Bondarenko that stands in the middle of the square was erected in 1980, and depicts in titanium the cosmonaut in a pose like an action figure. To the east of Ploshchad Gagarina and about 20 minutes' walk from the Hotel Sputnik, the Danilov Monastery is the official residence of the Russian Orthodox Patriarch and dates back to 1282. Since being returned to the Church in 1983, the monastery has undergone total restoration and reconstruction. Further north from Ploshchad Gagarina, Leninskiy Prospekt runs along the east side of Gorky Park, the first Soviet Park of Leisure and Culture, which today combines the remains of two beautiful formal gardens from the 18th century with a sprawling funfair, outdoor disco, and other varied amusements.
