Local Sightseeing

The main attraction of the Sayany Hotel is its proximity to Elk Island (Losiniy Ostrov) Nature Reserve. This vast park has been known since the 15th century, first as a carefully guarded royal hunting ground, later as a popular site for Muscovites to escape from the city at weekends. Officially recognized as a nature reserve since 1983, the park contains the source of the Yauza, Moscow's second river, and has also been the site of archaeological explorations which have uncovered burial mounds and other remains dating back to around 1000BC.
