Historical Hotel Sovietsky

Places of interest surrounding the hotel include the impressive Dinamo Sports Stadium, home to Russia's oldest football club, which was founded in 1887 and whose history you can explore in the Dinamo Musuem, situated in front of the north stand. Also in the vicinity is the beautiful Petrovsky Palace, built in the early 19th Century at the command of Catherine the Great as an Imperial resting place on the road to St. Petersburg. The building's stunning red brick and white masonry facade provided a fashionable backdrop, against which the 19th Century Muscovite social elite paraded their new carriages and took long decadent picnics on the grass. In 1923 the Zhukovsky Air Academy moved into the palace and has remained there ever since, training such famous names as the first man in space, cosmonaut Yury Gagarin. Within walking distance or the hotel visitors can find the Belorus Railway Station and the start of Tverskaya Street, one of Moscow's main commercial arteries.
