Historical Hotel Sovietsky

Nearly of Moscow's major visitor attractions are a short metro ride from the Historical Hotel Sovietsky, but in the immediate vicinity of the hotel there are only a few sights of interest.

The Central Moscow Hippodrome (across the road from the hotel) is Russia's premier racetrack and home to the Russian Derby, which may be not great honor, although it is worth walking around to view the impressively ornate late 19th century and Stalinist neo-classical architecture,

For devoted football fans, it may also be worth checking out Dynamo Stadium, home ground of FC Dynamo Moscow, which is just behind Dinamo Metro Station. The club, historically connected to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, is in the Russian premier league and has an illustrious history, although it has been surpassed by Moscow's other three sides in recent decades. There is a small museum attached to the stadium telling the story of the club's history.

A little further along Leningradskiy Prospekt you will find the Petrovskiy Traveling Palace, built 1776-1780 by Matvey Kazakov on the orders of Catherine the Great as a waypoint for travelers on the road to/from St. Petersburg. A striking piece of neo-gothic architecture, it now serves as a luxury hotel, with a small public park behind it.
