Atlas Park-Hotel

Although the Atlas Park Hotel is located far from central Moscow, there are a few sites of historic interest a short drive from the hotel. The most famous is Gorki Leninskie, once a country estate of the wealthy Morozov family, which became the permanent residence of Vladimir Lenin in the final year of his life. After his death, the estate was immediately turned into a museum, which meant that the historic neo-classical buildings and park were unusually well preserved during the Soviet era, apart from the addition of a brutal 1970s block on the edge of the park built to house the museum. Inside is a wealth of Lenin memorabilia, including his armored car. The park also contains a reasonably interesting Museum of Peasant Life. The estate is just under 20km from the Atlas Park-Hotel.

Right next to the hotel, although sadly not normally open to the public, is another former estate of the Morozov family at Odintsovo. The main house is a remarkable and unique fin de siecle recreation of a Loire chateau, and is worth taking a walk along the Rozhaika River to see.
