Akvarel Hotel

The Akvarel's superb central location means that the hotel is within comfortable walking distance of the Moscow Kremlin, Red Square, and the Bolshoi Theater, which is only a few steps from the hotel.

At the end of Ulitsa Bolshaya Dmitrovka, opposite Teatralnaya Metro Station, stands the House of Unions, a vast neoclassical building that was used for Communist Party Congresses and the state funerals of all Soviet leaders except Nikita Khrushchev.

At the northern end of Ulitsa Petrovka, about ten minutes' walk from the hotel, the Moscow Museum of Modern Art is worth visiting for its collection of Russian avant garde art from the 1910s and 1920s. Opposite the museum, the Verkhopetrovskiy Monastery is one of Moscow's oldest and has survived almost unaltered since the 17th century.

Also on Ulitsa Petrovka, the Museum of GULAG History is small but absorbing. Also worth visiting are the Sandunovsky Baths, Moscow's oldest and most luxurious public bathhouse, with stunning historic interiors.
