Volga Apart-Hotel

Although the Volga Apart Hotel is just outside the main tourist are of central Moscow, there are a few landmark buildings and other attractions a short walk from the hotel. Not least of these are the three very different railway stations on Komsomolskaya Ploshchad. The oldest, Leningrad Station, is an austere late neoclassical building by the famous Moscow classicist architect Konstantin Thon, while the Yarsolavl and Kazan Stations are both superior examples of Russian Revival architecture, with colorful references to Russian folklore and medieval architectural styles.

On your way to Sukharevskaya Metro Station, you will walk past the gates of the Sklifosovskiy Medical Institute, housed in a magnificent neoclassical building on the Garden Ring. Built at the turn of the 19th century by Count Nikolay Sheremetev as a hospice and almshouse, it was one of the first hospitals for the poor in Russia. It is now part of Russia's largest provider of emergency medical treatment and the main A & E hospital in Moscow.

Opposit Sukharevskaya Metro Station is the Church of the Trinity, built in the late 17th-century as the regimental church for a regiment of streltsy guardsmen. Further south along Ulitsa Sretenka is the Church of the Assumption in Pechatniki, a typical example of the Moscow style known as Naryshkin Baroque.
