Of the historic sites in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, the most significant is undoubtedly the Church of the Archangel Gabriel at 15 Arkhangelskiy Pereulok Known more colloquially as the Menshikov Tower, this structure was built at the behest of Peter the Great’s advisor, Prince Alexander Menshikov in 1707. This church represents a sterling example of Petrine Baroque in Moscow. Not far from the Tower are the Chistye Prudy - “Clean Ponds”. These ponds were part of Prince Menshikov’s estate and he was the one who turned a dumping ground into an attractive public space still utilized today.
