Ukraine Hotel

Nearest metro: Kievskaya, Smolenskaya

The Ukraine Hotel stands West of the city center on Kutuzovsky Prospect, one of the many central avenues radiating from the heart of the city, and named after Mikhail Kutuzov, the celebrated Russian Field Marshal who led his troops along that road to the bloody 1812 battle of Borodino against the great Napoleon.

The hotel is not particularly well served by transportation links, the nearest Metro Station "Kievskaya" being a 10-minute walk away and Moscow's International Sheremetyevo-2 Airport lying approximately 28 km Northwest and an hour's drive away. However, business travelers will find its location just a short walk from Moscow's World Trade Center and Expocenter very convenient, and those on diplomatic business to the city will appreciate its close proximity to the White House and Mayoralty.

For the leisure traveler the Ukraine lies just two Metro Stations from Red Square and many of Moscow's principle tourist attractions. Also situated just a short distance from the hotel lie the shining domes and scarlet-painted fortifications of Moscow's most beautiful monastery, Novodevichy. Founded in the 16th century to commemorate Vasily III's recapture of Smolensk from Polish hands, the convent and cathedral complex has witnessed many historical events including the proclamation of Boris Godunov as Tsar in 1598. Immediately adjacent to the convent lies Moscow's most famous and illustrious cemetery, where you can admire the graves of such Russian notables as the writers Chekhov, Gogol and Bulgakov, the composer Shostakovich, the great silent movie director Sergei Eisenstein and the former Soviet leader Nikita Krushchev. Again, within easy walking distance of the Hotel Ukraine is the Borodino Panorama Museum, inaugurated in 1962 on the 150th anniversary of the famous battle and housing a 152-metre-long painting depicting a critical moment from the Kutuzov-led confrontation. Tourists will find the hotel convenient for the stylish boutiques and salons of Kutuzovsky Prospect and the nearby bustling commercial activity of Novy Arbat Street.
