HOME SOYUZ HOTEL LOCATIONS AND DIRECTIONS |
|
 |
|
The Soyuz Hotel is located in a green area on the banks of the Moscow canal in the very far north of Moscow, close to Sheremetyevo Airport, the Moscow Ring Road, and the Crocus Expo Centre.
The nearest metro station, Rechnoy Vokzal, is around 2km from the Soyuz Hotel, and can be reached by bus (Nos. 138 and 739) in around ten minutes. From there, it is a 22min ride to Teatralnaya Station, which is next to the Bolshoi Theatre in the very centre of Moscow.
Sheremetyevo Airport is only 14km from the Soyuz, and the drive to/from the hotel should not take more than 30 minutes. While Vnukovo and Domodedovo are much further away (46km and 77km), the hotel's proximity to the Moscow Ring Road ensures reasonably fast access – around 60 minutes for the former and 90 minutes for the latter by car.
Moscow's mainline stations are located in a ring around downtown Moscow. The closest to the Soyuz, Belorussky Station, is just over 30 minutes' drive from the hotel, and the rest can all be reached in around 50 minutes. |
 | Local sightseeing |
Although the Soyuz Hotel is a fair distance from central Moscow, the area surrounding the hotel is one of the more attractive of Moscow's modern regions, thanks to the large amount of green space along the banks of the Moscow Canal. Constructed using forced labour and opened in 1937, the canal connects the Moskva River with the Upper Volga, thus giving Moscow access to the White Sea, the Baltic Sea, the Caspian Sea, the Sea of Azov, and the Black Sea. The canal also provides almost half of Moscow's drinking water, and the are around the Khimki Reservoir, where the Soyuz is situated, is one of the canal's most picturesque stretches.
Built at the same time as the canal, Moscow's Northern River Terminal, which is close to Rechnoy Vokzal Metro Station and around 2km from the Soyuz Hotel, is an extraordinary building that combines the forms of Stalinist neoclassicism into the shape of a giant steamship. To reach the River Terminal from the metro, you walk through Park Druzhby (“Friendship Park”), which was opened in honour of Moscow's 1957 World Youth and Student Festival. Among the various monuments decorating the park are two works – “Bread” and “Fertility” - by the renowned Soviet sculptor Vera Mukhina, as well as a number of forgotten gifts to the city from around the world. |
