Soyuz Hotel

Even though the Soyuz Hotel is not near Moscow's downtown area, there are some benefits to being slight further afield. The area around the hotel is one of the more modern, attractive regions of Moscow. Here, you can find a large amount of green space along the banks of the Moscow Canal, which built in 1937 using forced labor in order to connect the Moskva River with the Upper Volga. This in turn gave Moscow eventual access to a vast array of open water. Coincidentally, this canal is also the source of a large portion of Moscow’s drinking water. The Khimki Reservior is not far from the hotel and provides some amazing vistas.

While the area is distinctly modern it its feel, it is still possible to find some fine neo-classical Stalinist architecture. Just 2km from the hotel, the Northern River Terminal is a grand building in the shape of a giant steamship. En route to this you can travel through Friendship Park (“Park Druzhby”) which is full of nice views, monuments, and scenery.
