Sheraton Palace Hotel

Although the Sheraton Palace Hotel is only a short metro ride from the majority of Moscow's major downtown attractions, including the Kremlin and Red Square, there are no major sights within the immediate vicinity of the hotel. Probably of most interest to visitors is the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, about 500 m south of the Sheraton Palace on Triumfalnaya Ploshchad ("Triumph Square"). Home to the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, it is among the city's premier venues for classical music concerts. Also on the square is a striking monument to the Futurist poet Vladimir Mayakovsky, after whom the nearby metro station, Mayakovskaya, is named. Moscow's metro is famous for its palatial station interiors, but Mayakovskaya is of particular interest for the modernity of its Art Deco design, as well as the extraordinary optimism of the murals which decorate its ceiling.

Belarus Railway Station, only 300 m from the Sheraton Palace Hotel, is not the finest of Moscow's railway stations architecturally, but can still boast some striking Russian Revival detailing on its facades. The church opposite the station, the Church of St. Nicholas at the Tver Gate, resembles a classic medieval Russian church but was in fact only consecrated in 1921. It is mainly of interest as one of the most important churches of the Old Believers sect in Moscow. Just to the east of the church, the Zuyev Workers Club is one of the best preserved examples of constructivist architecture in Moscow.
