Milan Hotel

Although the Milan Hotel is a fair distance from Moscow's main visitor attractions, it is very close to two former royal estates that are now among the most beautiful public parks in the city.

Tsaritsyno, the eastern end of which is only around 10 minutes' walk from the Milan, is a 700-hectare park and landscape garden laid out in the late 18th century for Catherine the Great, and centered on a spectacular neo-Gothic palace. After several decades of restoration, the park was officially reopened in 2007.

Slightly further north, Kolomenskoe was also once a royal park, although it dates from a much earlier era, its oldest building being the spectacular Church of the Ascension, built in 1532 to commemorate the birth of the future Ivan the Terrible. The large park contains several more historic churches, as well as a museum of old wooden buildings, including Peter the Great's cabin from Arkhangelsk.
