HOME ALROSA NA KAZACHYEM HOTEL LOCATIONS AND DIRECTIONS |

Nearest metro: Polyanka
The Alrosa Na Kazachyem has a delightful location on a peaceful side-street off Bolshaya Ordynka, a major avenue running due south from the Kremlin through the historic Zamoskvareche district to the south of the Moskva River. The area around the hotel is filled with 18th and 19th century mansions and historic churches.
The nearest metro station, Polyanka, is just under ten minutes' walk from the Alrosa Hotel, and from there it is only one stop to Borovitskaya, right next to the Kremlin.
The Alrosa Na Kazachyem is within 30 minutes' drive of all Moscow's mainline railway stations. Sheremetyevo Airport is just under 30km from the hotel and Vnukovo 27km. Both can be reached by car in 40-70 minutes. Domodedovo is approximately 40km away, and guests should allow at least one hour for the drive to/from the hotel, and considerably more at peak times. |

The major attraction in the Zamoskvareche district is the Tretyakov Gallery, which can be reached on foot from the Alrosa Na Kazachyem in approximately 15 minutes. Founded by Pavel Tretyakov, a textiles merchant and banker whose commitment to Russian art led him to support many of the greatest artists of the late 19th century and to build an unparalleled collection of paintings that he then bequeathed to the city of Moscow along with his specially adapted house on Lavrushensky Pereulok. For most visitors, Russian art is a closed book until the explosion of Russian artists into the European avant-garde during the 1910s and 1920s. The Tretyakov is a beautifully organized and presented collection that allows visitors to follow the progress of Russian painting from medieval icon-painting (of which the gallery has one of the finest collections in the world), through the rather derivative work of the Imperial period, and on to the first flowering of modern Russian art that the socially conscious national revival of the late 19th century produces. The Tretyakov's superb 20th century collection is now housed separately, but a visit the Old Tretyakov, with its beautiful premises and excellent exhibition information (all translated into English) should not be missed.
Among the many historic churches in the district, the closest to the Alrosa Na Kazachyem is the Church of the Iberian Icon of the Mother of God in Vyspole at 39, Bolshaya Ordynka Ulitsa, under five minutes' walk from the hotel. Completed in 1802, this pink-and-white has a very simple neoclassical design. A few hundred meters further up the street at no. 27, the Church of the Blessed Nikolai in Pyzhki is more likely to attract visitors' interest. Dating back to 1672, it features five gilded cuppolas and an intricate layered structure. Of a similar vintage and also less than ten minutes' walk from the Alrosa at 29a, Bolshaya Polyanka Ulitsa, the Church of St. Grigory of Neocaesarea is one of the most beautiful 17th century churches in Moscow, with ornate blue, red, and white facades and distinctive silvery domes. |
