The Metropol Hotel is situated in the very center of the city, 2 minutes walk from the Cathedrals of The Kremlin and the historical and spiritual heart of Moscow. Originally founded by Prince Yury Dolgoruky as a wooden fort above the confluence of the Moscow and Neglina rivers in 1147 AD, the Kremlin was the focus around which the city of Moscow grew up. Over the centuries various stone fortifications were added and the red, crenellated towers that we see today were constructed after 1472, under the supervision of Italian architects. The Kremlin became the seat of Russian political power and played host to the notorious Ivan The Terrible, Boris Godunov and Mikhail Romanov, the first in a long line of Romanov Tsars. At the turn of the 18th Century Tsar Peter The Great spurned Moscow and its historical Kremlin for his newly founded northern capital of St. Petersburg. Power eventually returned to the Kremlin in March 1918, when Lenin moved the seat of government back to the old capital. The Kremlin walls contain the Senate (the official residence of the President of the Russian Federation), the Great Kremlin Palace Concert Hall, numerous cathedrals and the State Armory, containing a priceless and staggering collection of treasures from throughout the history of the Russian Tsars.

From the upper windows of the hotel guests can not only see the glistening domes and star-topped towers of the Kremlin, but the vast expanse of Red Square, famed as the site of numerous Bolshevik demonstrations, Soviet parades and now occasional pop concerts. The Square is flanked by the red and back granite cubes of Lenin's Mausoleum (still displaying the body of the founder of the Soviet State some 76 after his death), the brightly-colored onion domes of St. Basil's Cathedral, the celebrated GUM Department Store and the country's central Historical Museum.

Just a few steps from Red Square guests can enjoy the beautiful greenery and fountains of the Alexander Gardens and the plush underground shopping mall of Manezhnaya Square. Directly opposite the Metropol stands the impressive stucco-ed facade of the world-renowned Bolshoy Theatre, the gem of Moscow's performing arts scene and home to the magnificent Bolshoy Ballet. The theatre has an extensive repertoire of breathtaking ballet and opera productions and visitors simply must see a performance before leaving Moscow. Also within a few steps of the hotel looms the monumental State Duma, home to the lower house of the Russian Parliament.

Treat yourself to an opulent getaway and enjoy the Metropol Hotel's central location and luxurious turn of the century interior. Equally convenient for businessmen and leisure travelers, the hotel is located next to Teatralnaya Metro Station and an hour's drive from Moscow's Sheremetevo International Airport.
