Marriott Tverskaya Hotel

The Marriott Tverskaya Hotel stands on Tverskaya Street, one of the central arteries running out of the city center. Originally, as its name would suggest, the road ran from Moscow's Kremlin to the old city of Tver, some 170 km to the north-west of Moscow, but was later extended onto the old religious capital of Novgorod, and after 1713 on to Peter the Great's city on the banks of the River Neva. From the 17th century onwards the street became Moscow's main thoroughfare, growing increasingly commercial and was the first street in the city to be lit by lampposts. Today Tverskaya boasts a plethora of boutiques and salons for Moscow's nouveaux riches and a number of notable landmarks.
